MIAMI: TRANSIT

Downtown Miami before and after mid-century highway construction and “urban renewal.” Even more of the neighborhood was recently demolished for a widening of I-395, construction of which can be seen in the 2022 photo (more info in previous posts). In the 1938 photo a Miami Beach-bound streetcar turns east to approach the causeway across Biscayne Bay. Electric transit in Miami was eliminated by 1940.
