ATLANTA: DEMOGRAPHICS

Atlanta is America's second most segregated city, according to @fivethirtyeight. This segregation is a direct result of historical red-lining, combined with the various other forms of institutional racism baked into the American government at every level. In these images 2010 census data is overlaid on the 1937 red-lining map and a 2017 aerial image. One dot equals 25 people, red=white; blue=black; orange=hispanic; green=asian. The formerly red-lined neighborhoods remain predominantly African-American, while the northern suburbs remain predominantly white.
